Benvenuti a Venezia!

Welcome to Italy! Arrive in the enchanting city of Venice, where a private transfer brings you directly to your boutique hotel tucked along the canals. Take a moment to settle in and feel the rhythm of Italian life begin to unfold.

As evening falls, gather with your fellow travelers for a welcome dinner at one of Venice’s classic trattorias — a perfect first taste of la dolce vita.  Your Italian adventure has officially begun — with laughter, flavor, and the magic of Venice setting the tone for the days ahead.

Day One

Discover Venice - Art, History & Cicchetti

It's time to set out to explore Venice with a local guide who brings the city’s history and legends to life. Wander through St. Mark’s Square and the Doge’s Palace, cross the iconic Rialto Bridge, and lose yourself in narrow alleyways where artisans still craft by hand.

After the tour, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy at your own pace. You might:

- Visit the Doge's Palace museum.
- Explore the canals with a private gondola ride.
- Enjoy Venice's magic and beauty with an afternoon spritz.
- Or simply embrace the Italian way of life with a post-lunch nap.

In Venice, every turn offers a new story, and every moment invites you to slow down and savor the magic.

Day Two

Islands of the lagoon

Today’s adventure takes you beyond the main canals to discover the charm of Venice’s islands. Begin with Murano, world-renowned for its centuries-old glassblowing tradition, where artisans still shape molten glass into shimmering works of art.

Continue to Burano, a photographer’s dream with its brightly painted houses and handmade lace — the perfect spot for a relaxed stroll and a light lunch.

As the day winds down, enjoy a leisurely return journey across the water with a free evening to bid your farewell to Venice in your own special way.

Day Three

Firenze - The Birthplace of the Renaissance

Today we leave Venice and travel like the Italians - aboard a high-speed train - where the Italian countryside unfolds as we journey towards Florence.

Upon arrival, settle into your historic boutique hotel and take a moment to absorb the city’s energy. The afternoon is yours to wander at leisure — perhaps a stroll along the Arno River, a first glimpse of the Duomo, or a visit to a charming piazza tucked off the beaten path on the other side of the bridge.

In the evening, gather for a welcome dinner featuring Tuscan flavors, fresh local ingredients, and the warm spirit of Florence. Your journey with The Italian Insider continues to unfold in a city steeped in art, history, and timeless Florentine charm.

Day Four

Florence Revealed — Art, History, and Hidden Gems

Spend the morning with a private guide discovering the masterpieces and secrets of Florence. Wander through the Duomo complex, admire the intricate details of Baptistery doors, stroll across the Ponte Vecchio, and explore artisan workshops in the Oltrarno district.

Your guide will share stories of the city’s rich history, art, and culture, giving you a deeper connection to its Renaissance heritage.

In the afternoon, enjoy free time to explore at your own pace — perhaps visiting a favorite museum, lingering over gelato in a sunlit piazza, or discovering quiet streets away from the crowds. Florence invites curiosity and wonder, and today is yours to savor both.

Day Five

Florence at Leisure — Or a Taste of Tuscany

Today is yours to shape your own experience. Spend the day exploring Florence at your own pace, whether it’s revisiting favorite landmarks, discovering hidden streets, shopping for leather, jewelry, and artisan goods, or enjoying a leisurely café in a sun-drenched piazza.

For those seeking a quintessential Tuscan experience, an optional full-day Tuscany Wine Tasting Tour is available (additional cost). A scenic journey through rolling hills and medieval villages, featuring visits to two carefully selected wineries where you can sample exceptional wines and learn about the region’s winemaking traditions.

Whether exploring the city or sipping your way through the Tuscan countryside, today is all about savoring Italy your way.

Day Six

Val d’Orcia Awaits

This morning, leave the bustling streets of Florence behind and travel south into the rolling hills of Val d’Orcia, a landscape of cypress-lined roads, golden fields, and charming hilltop towns.

En route, we will stop in one of Tuscany's beautiful hamlets, where you can enjoy lunch and take a short stroll through the city’s medieval streets and piazzas.

Upon arrival in Val d’Orcia, check in to your countryside accommodation and take a moment to soak in the serene vistas that have inspired artists for centuries. Spend the afternoon exploring the nearby village — wander cobblestone streets, visit local artisan shops, or simply relax and breathe in the Tuscan air.

In the evening, gather for a welcome dinner featuring traditional Val d’Orcia cuisine, paired with local wines, and toast to moving deeper into your unforgettable Tuscan experience.

Day Seven

The Via Francigena & Its Medieval Hilltowns

Today you’ll explore a breathtaking stretch of the historic Via Francigena, the ancient pilgrimage route that winds through the heart of the Val d’Orcia. Spend the day immersed in the iconic landscapes of Val d’Orcia, where rolling hills, cypress-lined roads, and golden fields create picture-perfect vistas at every turn.

This morning begins with a visit to Tuscany’s natural thermal waters, where you can soak in the warm, mineral-rich pools surrounded by gentle hills and peaceful countryside. Afterwards, continue to the lesser-known gem of Radicofani, perched high above the Val d’Orcia.

In the afternoon, enjoy time to relax at a local spa or head out to explore two of Tuscany’s most beloved hilltowns: Pienza, with its Renaissance architecture and pecorino shops, and Montalcino, world-famous for its Brunello wine and sweeping vineyard views. Whether you choose slow wellness or classic Tuscan charm, the day offers the perfect blend of restoration and exploration.

Day Eight

Cooking Class & Journey to Umbria

This morning, embrace the essence of Tuscan living with a hands-on farm-to-table cooking experience in the heart of Val d’Orcia. Begin by strolling through the garden to harvest fresh herbs and vegetables, guided by your hosts as you learn about the region’s seasonal produce and culinary traditions. Then, roll up your sleeves to prepare a three-course meal, crafted from the ingredients you’ve gathered — a true celebration of simplicity, flavor, and connection to the land.

After enjoying your creations over a leisurely lunch paired with local wines, journey east into Umbria, Italy’s lush “green heart.” Arrive at your historic villa just outside of Perugia, where you’ll settle in and unwind amidst tranquil countryside views — the perfect setting to begin your next Italian chapter.

Day Nine

History, Culture & Leisure

Wake up to the peaceful beauty of your Umbrian villa, surrounded by beautiful gardens. After breakfast, head into Perugia for a private guided walking tour, uncovering the city’s fascinating layers of history — from its Etruscan walls to its medieval piazzas and vibrant modern culture.

The afternoon is yours to enjoy as you wish:
- Perhaps visit the Perugina Chocolate Factory.
- Explore the National Gallery of Umbria,
- Take a funicular up to panoramic viewpoints.
- Or relax at a café with an espresso and people-watch.

Return to the villa in the evening for a quiet night or an optional dinner in town — the perfect end to a day that blends culture, flavor, and freedom.

Day Ten

Assisi & the Flavors of Umbria

Today you’ll journey to the sacred and storied town of Assisi, birthplace of St. Francis and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy a private guided tour through its peaceful streets and sacred landmarks, including the Basilica di San Francesco, adorned with breathtaking frescoes by Giotto.

After time to wander the charming shops and cafés at your leisure, continue into the Umbrian countryside for a visit to a traditional frantoio — an olive oil mill where age-old methods meet modern craftsmanship. Walk the olive groves, learn about the production process and taste a variety of oils for which this region is known.

In the evening, choose to return to your villa for a quiet night under the stars or head into Perugia for dinner and an evening out, soaking up the local atmosphere before your next adventure begins.

Day Eleven

Bologna — Culture, Cuisine & Charm

This morning, depart Umbria and travel north to Bologna, the vibrant capital of Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region and a city celebrated for its rich history and legendary cuisine.

Upon arrival, meet your local guide for a private walking tour, exploring the city’s elegant porticoes, medieval towers, and lively piazzas. Learn about Bologna’s university heritage, visit the Piazza Maggiore, and admire the iconic Two Towers that define its skyline.

As evening falls, gather for dinner at a traditional osteria, where homemade pasta and regional specialties set the stage for an unforgettable culinary experience. It’s the perfect introduction to the warmth, flavor, and authenticity that make Bologna the gastronomic heart of Italy.

Day Twelve

Parmigiano, Balsamic & Farewell to Italy

Today is a celebration of Italy’s culinary heart. Begin with a visit to a Parmigiano Reggiano dairy farm, where you’ll witness the centuries-old process of crafting this world-famous cheese from milk to aging cellar. Enjoy a guided tasting that reveals the depth and nuance of true Parmigiano Reggiano.

Continue to Modena, home of Italy’s prized traditional balsamic vinegar, for an intimate tour of a local acetaia and a sampling of aged vinegars that embody generations of craftsmanship.

After returning to Bologna, enjoy free time to shop, relax, or wander through the city’s porticoed streets. In the evening, gather for a farewell dinner at one of Bologna’s renowned restaurants — a final toast to friendship, discovery, and the unforgettable flavors of Northeast Italy.

Day Thirteen

Arrivederci Italia — Departure Day

After a final breakfast in Bologna, it’s time to say arrivederci to Italy. Enjoy a private transfer to the airport or train station, with assistance for your onward travels.

As you journey home, carry with you the memories of winding canals, hilltop towns, rolling vineyards, and the incredible flavors and friendships discovered along the way.

This Italian Insider adventure through Central - Northeast Italy may come to an end — but the connection to Italy’s heart, culture, and spirit will stay with you forever.
