Northern Italy, A Different Perspective

A signature journey with The Italian Insider through Turin, Langhe & the Alps

JOIN THE JOURNEY

Northern Italy, a different perspective.

Italy has its celebrated classics, and for good reason. But there's so much more to discover when you look beyond the places that tend to make every first itinerary.

Northern Italy is where some of my own Italian story unfolded. I lived, worked, and studied here, and it's a region I know and love. From Turin's remarkable history and elegant streets to the vineyards and food traditions of the Langhe, the dramatic landscapes around Monte Bianco, and the many sides of Milan, this journey brings together places that each reveal something different about Italy.

This journey is dear to me, and what makes it special to me is the way it connects the dots: history, food, wine, landscapes, and the character of each place. Rather than rushing from one famous sight to the next, we'll have time to experience the contrasts that make Northern Italy so compelling.

Join me for a more personal introduction to this part of Italy, shaped by the places I've called home and the experiences that have deepened my understanding of Italian life.

Discover the Italy I fell in love with.

Benvenuti a Torino!

Welcome to Northern Italy! Upon arrival in Turin, you’ll be greeted by a private driver for a seamless transfer to your  hotel in the heart of the city. Take this time to unwind, refresh, and settle into your surroundings.

In the evening we’ll gather for our Welcome Aperitivo, where we will connect, set our intentions for the journey ahead, and toast to the unforgettable experiences that await!

Benvenuta—your Northern Italy adventure has officially begun!

Day One

Discovering Turin

Today, we explore Turin’s history and elegance with a guided tour of its grand piazzas, palaces, and hidden gems, including Palazzo Reale and Palazzo Madama.

Then the afternoon is yours to explore at your own pace. You might:
- Visit the Chapel of the Holy Shroud.
- Take a leisurely stroll along the Po River, soaking in scenic views.
- Shop on Via Roma, where high-end boutiques and historic cafés line the elegant streets.
-Take in stunning views from the Cinema Museum

Jet lag can be very real. It might be nice to enjoy a nap or hit the spa at the hotel before heading out to enjoy a pizza together.

Day Two

A Royal Affair

This morning, we’ll step into the world of Italian royalty with a visit to the magnificent Reggia di Venaria Reale, one of the great royal residences of the House of Savoy. Often referred to as the Versailles of Italy. Explore its grand halls, beautiful architecture, and expansive gardens before we enjoy lunch together.

After lunch, we’ll return to Turin for a relaxed afternoon at leisure. Wander through the city’s elegant streets, browse the boutiques, stop for a coffee or a bicerin, or simply take some time to unwind at the hotel.

The afternoon is yours to enjoy Turin your way.

Day Three

A Taste of Piedmont

Today, we leave the city of Turin and go to the Italian wine country to embark on a culinary adventure with a private chef, learning to create an authentic farm-to-table Piemontese lunch (with wine tasting, of course). We’ll make an antipasto, handmade pasta, and rich sauces before enjoying the fruits of our labor together.

After lunch, check in at La Torricella, our family run farm stay —with time for relaxation - lounge by the pool, take a nature walk, or enjoy a glass of Barolo, or an optional wine tasting at the farm stay.

As the sun sets over the vineyards, we’ll enjoy a scenic dinner, savoring local flavors and the serene views.

Day Four

Truffles, Wine & Adventure

Today, we go on a truffle hunting adventure with a local Trifulau and his trained dog, learning about the art of truffle hunting, the region’s deep-rooted traditions, and the magic behind these highly prized culinary treasures.

After the hunt, we’ll enjoy a truffle tasting, paired with local delicacies and wines.

The afternoon is yours to customize your Langhe experience:
- Rent an e-bike and ride through the picturesque vineyard-covered hills.
- Go wine tasting at one of the region’s celebrated wineries.
- Explore a nearby village, like Barolo or La Morra, known for their stunning views and historic charm.
- Indulge in a cheese-tasting experience.
- Relax at the pool or book a spa treatment.

We will come together for aperitivo at one of my favorite view spots in all of Langhe.

Day Five

From the Vineyards to the Alps

This morning, we leave the rolling hills of the Langhe and head north to Aosta. Before hitting the road we will tour around Monforte d'Alba to stretch our legs and take in a few more view points before makeing our way up to the Alps.

Upon arrival in Aosta, you’ll check into your cozy alpine accommodation and have time to settle in and use the spa before an optional afternoon stroll through the town’s Roman ruins and charming streets.

In the evening we will gather around the table once more to try mountain classics such as polenta, salumi, local cheeses and more!

Tomorrow, we will wake up to the fresh mountain air and explore the magic of the Alps!

Day Six

Alpine Adventure in Courmayeur

Today, we journey to Courmayeur, the gateway to Monte Bianco (Mont Blanc).

Together we will ride the Skyway Monte Bianco – Take the breathtaking cable car to the highest point in Europe for panoramic views of the Alps.

Wander around the highest botanical garden, take the next cable car across the glaciers, have a glass of wine that is grown up in the alps. There are so many things to explore up the mountain.

Afterwards we will go to one of the most stunning spas in Italy and unwind in the region’s famous thermal waters, surrounded by stunning peaks and enjoy an aperitivo in our robes before we head back to our mountain chalet.

We’ll gather for a delicious alpine dinner before heading back to Aosta for a relaxed evening.

Day Seven

Castles, Peaks & Pristine Nature

This morning is spent exploring its fairy tale castles, where medieval charm meets stunning alpine landscapes. Stroll through ancient halls, admire intricate frescoes, and soak in breathtaking valley views as we step back in time.

Next, we head into the breathtaking Gran Paradiso National Park for a refreshing hike through alpine meadows, dense forests, and rugged mountain trails. Keep an eye out for ibex, marmots, and soaring eagles as we immerse ourselves in Italy’s first national park.

After a day of adventure, we return to Aosta for a well-earned dinner featuring local mountain cuisine, the perfect way to end our time in this stunning region.

Day Eight

Arriving on Lake Como

Today, we’ll make our way from the mountains of the Aosta Valley to the shores of Lake Como, where elegant villas, charming lakeside towns, and beautiful views await.

We’ll spend the afternoon exploring some of the lake’s most enchanting corners, including a visit to one of its historic villas. As the day-trippers begin to leave and the lake settles into a quieter rhythm, we’ll have time to enjoy the atmosphere that makes this place so special.

As evening approaches, we’ll settle in for the night before gathering for a beautiful dinner by the water, with the lake as our backdrop.

Day Nine

From Lake Como to Milan

We’ll spend the morning discovering another of Lake Como’s charming towns and visiting one more of its beautiful historic villas before making our way to Milan.

After checking into our hotel, we’ll have some time to unwind and settle in before heading out to explore the city on an evening walking tour. We’ll get a feel for Milan’s character, from its grand architecture to its lively streets, as the city comes alive in the evening.

To finish the day, we’ll make our way to the Navigli district, known for its picturesque canals, lively atmosphere, and wonderful places to eat. It’s the perfect setting to enjoy dinner together and experience a different side of Italian city life.

Day Ten

Milan, Your Way & A Rooftop Farewell

We have one final day to soak up Milan! Spend the morning discovering one of the city’s great treasures, whether that means admiring Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper or exploring the magnificent Duomo. There’s also time to wander the elegant shopping streets, pick up a few last-minute finds, or simply enjoy one more Italian coffee.

This afternoon is yours to enjoy Milan at your own pace before we come together for a very special final dinner. We’ll raise a glass on a rooftop overlooking the magnificent Piazza del Duomo, surrounded by the beauty and energy of the city.

A beautiful setting, a wonderful meal, and one last evening together to celebrate the memories we’ve made along the way.

Day Eleven

Arrivaderci Italia - Until Next Time!

This morning, enjoy a leisurely check-out from your hotel and take in any last moments of Milano. If time allows, enjoy a cappuccino at a historic café, take a final stroll through the city’s elegant streets, or visit a last-minute boutique or landmark before heading to the airport.

For those flying back to the U.S., private transfers will be arranged for a smooth journey to the airport. If you’re continuing your travels through Italy, the adventure doesn’t have to end—whether it’s heading to the Amalfi Coast, Tuscany, or beyond, Milan is the perfect gateway to your next destination.

No matter where the road leads next, this experience of Northern Italy will always stay with you!
